Is Down-Under Wool Producing Medical Sheepskin Products Using Responsible Practices?
Posted by CBC News on 6th Oct 2021
Throughout its history, Down-Under Wool has always sourced its products sustainably. By being transparent about the resources we use to create our products, we hope to reassure our customers that they are purchasing items that are made from ethically sourced and cruelty-free ingredients.
Because we are mainly dedicated to promoting the domestic Australian economy, we exclusively purchase our raw sheepskins from certified Australian suppliers who are required to uphold Australia's strict requirements for animal welfare.
In contrast to many other sheepskin businesses, we purchase raw sheepskin skins directly from regional vendors all across the country, allowing us to maintain complete control over the quality of our goods from the very beginning.
Ensuring The Safety Of Animals
We condemn the use of animals as enslaved people or the killing of them just for their fur. This means that we only use the by-products of hides from animals that were grown for the food business, as opposed to using furs or fur from wild or domestic animals who were killed exclusively for their hide (such as mink).
We only use sheepskins that are leftovers from the food industry because we strongly oppose both molesting and the use of virgin wool. This means that the sheepskin used in our products is solely made from wool that has been recycled from other materials. Additionally, we think that by collaborating directly with our suppliers, we can guarantee that our consumers will receive high-quality goods created from ethically and humanely obtained materials.
Currently, sheepskin, wool, fleece, leather, velvet, and down are the animal-based products we utilize most frequently. The strict requirements we have for all of these resources are detailed in the article below.
We consider the following three characteristics to be essential for any wool product:
● Farms observe the Five Freedoms of animal welfare and treat their sheep with holistic respect.
● Throughout the entire act of manufacturing clothing, from the wool growers to the fabric manufacturers to the regions where the garment is assembled, materials are traced.
● Utilizing modern land management methods, the soil is kept in good condition.
Environmental Sustainability
We use every sheepskin hide in some capacity since we are committed to the environment and sustainability. It is likely that there would be some flaws in the sheepskins we work with because they are natural materials. Our skilled crew works around these to reduce waste, and we frequently donate our leftovers to nearby animal shelters.
Our vendors and we collaborate to ensure that our materials come from verified sources, such as leftovers from the food sector so that our customers can be confident that the cow skins we use are also ethically obtained. We only work with vendors who adhere to strict environmental laws and who don't engage in unlawful activities like deforestation.
We aim to use new technology and procedures as we advance, both to lessen our impact on the environment and, most importantly, to maintain a high standard of animal welfare.
