Looking for Merino wool sheets? We don't sell woven Merino sheets. Our Merino wool bedding is a deep wool fleece knitted into a backing. The Hospital Bed Nursing Fleece (F102) goes on like a fitted sheet, with an elasticised skirt all the way round. Lie directly on the wool for the best protection, or put a fitted sheet over it.

Which Merino wool pad?

The figure that matters is wool density, in grams of wool per square meter. More wool means more cushioning.

Merino wool fleece or sheepskin?

A sheepskin is wool still attached to the leather. A Merino wool fleece is wool knitted into a fabric backing, so it can be machine washed and dried with less care. Prefer natural sheepskin? See lambskin bedding and the AS4480.1 Australian Medical Sheepskin (M102C), which has a dense 30 mm Merino pile.

Care

  1. Shake the fleece every week or so, and air it on a windy day, to lift the pile.
  2. Machine wash in Woolskin on a gentle or wool cycle; it conditions and disinfects the wool.
  3. Dry on low heat and low agitation and take it out before it's fully dry: wool does best with about 15% moisture left in it.

Is Merino wool bedding good for pressure sores?
Dense Merino wool reduces pressure, shear and moisture, the three main factors behind pressure sores. The denser pads (F103C and the XD range) give more cushioning than the nursing fleece. Read 3 ways to benefit from a hospital nursing fleece.

Does it fit a home bed?
The Nursing Fleece is cut for a standard hospital bed. For a home mattress, use a 30" x 60" pad on top of the sheet, or a wool underlay under it.
